Summer Snapshot Fundraiser

Summer Snapshot Fundraiser

On June 27, 2012 Bryan A. Pumphrey passed away unexpectedly. He was 33. While I never had the chance to meet him, I knew the important facts about his life: he was a good man, a loving father to Addison and Madden and a doting husband to his beautiful wife, Kayme. He was a respected member of his communities, first here in Illinois and recently in Leawood, KS where he and his family moved last year. In a local piece about his death, friends describe him as gentle soul and a person who was always smiling. Yes, Bryan will be missed by many.

Even though I never met him, I was affected by his passing as I tried to find a way to show my support for his wife. Over the last year Kayme has become a friend, one I feel very lucky to have. For like Bryan, most people would describe Kayme in the very same way: full of kindness and a wonderful soul. They were quite a team and so full of love and respect for each other that I found them to be very inspiring.

The first time I met Kayme was a year ago at the Families in the Loop Brunch & Boogie. We met as everyone was packing up. I liked her instantly, she is such an easy person to like. She’s easy going, friendly and like her husband, always smiling. A few weeks later I called her to invite her business to join a promotion I was putting together. Our conversation lasted almost 5 hours.

Over the last year, I’ve gotten to know her and my admiration for her has only grown. Particularly for the way she seems to effortlessly face adversity with an air of unbreakable positivity. She is so strong and has persevered through unimaginable feats with never-ending dignity and grace, all while running a business and raising two small children. Yes, Kayme is quite remarkable to those who know her.

As the news of her tragedy circulated through our small and tight knit community of women business owners, there were many people that stepped up to show their support. Businesses donated a portion of their sales, her Chicago friends held a local service that coincided with Bryan’s funeral in Leawood. Much like Kayme inspired us, many were inspired to help her.

With that, I’d like to invite you to join Julia Franzosa and I for this very special event as we show support for Kayme and her family. All proceeds from this event will go to the Pumphrey Family fund. It’s a wonderful way to show your support and we hope that you will join us on Saturday, August 18th, 2012.

We will be offering mini sessions from 9 to noon at The Centered Chef (177 N Ada, Chicago IL). Your $50 donation secures your spot and guarantees you a 10 minute mini session and 1 hi-res digital image.

Additional images can be purchased on the day of the event: $50 for 2 additional images and $100 for 4 additional images.

All additional images must be purchased on the day of the event.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Bryan A Pumphrey Memorial Fund.

A Special Event for Superman Sam

A Special Event for Superman Sam

A couple of weeks ago my pal Beth told me about a little boy named Superman Sam: he’s 6 years old and currently fighting AML, otherwise known as Acute Myeloid Leukemia. AML also happens to be the same kind of Leukemia I had at 19. Before she was finished, I was ready to help.

So how am I planning to help? Well it turns out that Superman Sam’s mom is on a mission. Here’s an excerpt from her blog:

"If you want to help me show Sam how many people are on his team, so he can feel the love:

Take a photograph of yourself wearing your favorite superhero shirt
(or holding up their logo…or just smiling!)
Print out the picture.
Put it in an envelope and mail it to:

Sam Sommer, E571
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
P.O. Box 1997
Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53201-1997

We will hang all the pictures on Sam’s wall…Team Superman Sam!"

— Phyllis, mother of Superman Sam

Well, of course I was ready to pass it on and I agreed to ask my clients to don a cape for the cause during their sessions. But deep down I wanted to do more.

So, how can we get a bunch of people in the same place to get their photos snapped in superhero attire for Sam? Easy! We’ll throw a party! And guess what? You’re invited!

Join us this Friday at Little Beans Cafe for all the fun…

Picture Party for Superman Sam

Friday, July 13th, 2012 from 3pm to 6pm at Little Beans Cafe (1809 W. Webster, Chicago)

Admission is $8 and includes complimentary pizza and ice cream. All attendees will receive one web sized digital image of their little superhero, compliments of Bum Bul Bee Photo + Films. All images will be printed and sent to Superman Sam for his superhero wall.
